The Moon and More

Want to know how I felt about this book???

I am just going to start this review off by saying how much I love Sarah Dessen and her works. So let us get into the review shall we. (It is pretty in depth so make sure you have read the book or you will get spoiled).

"In The Moon and More, Emaline works at her family's vacation rental company the summer before she leaves for college. She must confront her values, goals and choices as her relationship with city-boy Theo evolves and she's forced to say goodbye to the beach town where she grew up"

I found the story of Emaline compelling and different from the stories of some of Dessens' other characters. At first her life seems like a dream; perfect boyfriend and happy family, but good things do not last long. We learn about Emaline and her family drama with her father and as Mrs. Dessen goes more into her character development we see the cracks. I loved Emaline as a character; I thought she was strong and the face of trouble, but also just wanted to be a normal girl. One aspect I didnt like was Emaline and Theo. After she and Luke broke up(kinda saw it coming from the beginning) why did she have to go for Theo. I dont know if I just didnt like him because his character was one of the least developed for a main or if it was the arrogant way the voice in my head made him sound. Emaline had talked about all the girls in Colby who went for summer flings and by October we single ladies again, so why go for it? Luckily that relationship ended when Theo made it apparent that he was in it long term and later when Emaline took a job with his ex-boss he split, not that Emaline was hurt by it she was counting days until she left for school anyway(what happened to mister long term humm Theo?) That little tangent aside what I noticed most that set this book apart was that the ending wasnt a nice little package of happy. No meeting the boy a little later, no warm fuzzy ya happy ending. No Emaline had more of a what if ending to her story. She is at school with Luke and she felt that if they were meant to be they would. Who knows what happen to Theo. Is her dad only interested in her grades at school or is he finally over the pride of having to back out of paying for her school and ready for a real relationship? All these question left makes it easy for a Sarah Dessen characters are at college lets see what happens.

This is how I will forever feel about a Sarah Dessen book. xoxo Rachel
